HS/MS NEWS LETTER OCTOBER 2013  (CLICK TO VIEW)

August 1st, 2013

Dear Students and Parents,

The 2013-2014 school year is already filled with excitement.  The great support of the Strong Schools, Strong Community initiative led to the passing of the bond and the award of the Best Grant with nearly half of the six million dollar investment in our schools coming from the State.

What does this mean for our students?  We will be tearing down the old Ag and Science building, with leaky roofs and walls that were pulling apart to create new state of the art Science Labs and Ag Shop.  We are building two new middle school science rooms and connecting the music hall with the main building.  We are creating a new Life Skills classroom and high school math room.  Our new construction will increase our safety of our students through additional connections, greatly reducing outside passing and exterior access.  We are also updating our old locker rooms and building a health classroom

We are also excited to add some new staff this year!  In the Middle School, Mrs. Baines is moving over from the high school to teach math.  We have also added Ms. Graham for Language Arts, Mrs. Cullicott for Math, and Ms. O’Neill for Science.  In the High School, we added Mr. Swingle for Science, and Ms. Wilkins for Special Education.  Mrs. Larricq is also joining us as our new Middle/High School Secretary.  Last, but not least Mr. Lankford as Assistant Principal/Athletic Director.

We have also listened to all those surveys done last year.  One area we are really striving to improve on is communication.  We have released a brand new website.  We will are posting important information for the district and each building.  A running calendar of events is posted, fiscal transparency, forms, and other information.  I will also be generating a regular newsletter from the Middle/High School.  We have also added an auto-caller for important information.  Please make sure we have your updated contact information to take advantage of this new tool.

Come out to a game, listen to a concert, help with Knowledge Bowl, just get involved...if you are interested in taking an active role in your school, here are a few more ways to participate:  join the Middle School PTA or Booster Club, MS/HS Accountability committees, or sign-up to volunteer.  Please contact the main office (970) 882-7288, send me an email bthurston@dolores.k12.co.us, or watch the calendar for our scheduled meeting times.  We would love to have you on board.

It is shaping up to be great year! If you have any questions, comments, concerns, celebrations please contact us.  I am more than happy to meet with you.  Thank you for all you do!

Sincerely,

Brandon Thurston
